After ever-shorter service lives, this equipment needs to be subjected to a suitablerecycling processes. If current estimates are to be believed, more than 1,8 million tonnes of electrical and electronic scrap accumulates in Germany every year.
In the past, this old electronic equipment ended up in domestic dumping grounds or refuse incineration plants. The new law governing electrical and electronic devices (ElektroG) passed on 28.02.2005 attributed some new tasks to the electrical industry:
